Mocktails That Do More by Jenna Werner, RD
Mocktails have become an entire movement. And I for one, am loving it.
Recently due to a multitude of reasons I personally have decreased my alcohol intake but especially in the summer time, the urge for a fun drink with fun flavors does not just go away.
So making it fun and functional is my new hyperfixation. And this new obsession will def benefit you reading.
Now, don’t twist my written words either, I think if alcohol is consumed safely, in moderation and it is something that is safe and healthy for you and consumed responsibly there is a time and place for it, but I also think an active approach to decreasing intake has a lot of benefits and becoming more intentional about what we drink and how it makes us feel is amazing.
It's Not About Restriction
One of the biggest misconceptions about mocktails is that they're only for people who don't drink alcohol.
In reality, many people are simply embracing a "sober curious" lifestyle, choosing alcohol-free options on some occasions while still enjoying alcoholic beverages at others.
And honestly? I think that can be one of the smartest health hacks out there. Talk about longevity biohacking!
Cutting back on alcohol, even if you don't eliminate it completely, can support so many aspects of health over time. It can mean better sleep, more energy, fewer wakeups at night aka more restful sleep, improved hydration, and a more consistent morning routine. And when you zoom out, those small choices can add up in a big way for longevity.
It's less about restriction and more about having choices and truly understanding your body.
Maybe you have an early workout tomorrow.
Maybe you want to wake up feeling refreshed.
Maybe you're driving.
Maybe you're trying to support your sleep.
Or maybe you simply want something that feels a little more special than sparkling water.
Mocktails allow you to enjoy the ritual without feeling like you're missing out.
Why Rituals Matter
One thing I find fascinating is that many of us aren't just craving the drink, we're craving the idea of slowing down, feeling calmer (even though we know alcohol doesn’t do this..!) and community.
At the end of a long day, there's something comforting about pouring a drink into your favorite glass, adding fresh fruit or herbs, and taking a moment to slow down.
That ritual signals to your brain that the workday is over.
The kids are finally in bed.
It's okay to shift gears.
The drink itself is only part of the experience.
Creating intentional evening rituals can help us become more mindful about transitioning from a busy day into a more restful night.
And if that ritual also helps you cut back on alcohol and protect your sleep? That's a win-win.
Because sleep is one of the most underrated longevity tools we have. When we sleep better, we tend to feel better, think more clearly, and make healthier choices the next day. So maybe a mocktail will help you unwind without disrupting your sleep, you're not just creating a cute evening habit, you may also be supporting your long-term health in a meaningful way.
The Best Mocktails Do More Than Taste Good
It should be refreshing, flavorful, and why not also make it functional!
That's one of the reasons I enjoy using Day/Dream PM Relax as the base for an evening mocktail.
Unlike many nighttime products, it's caffeine-free and melatonin-free, and it's formulated with calming botanicals and minerals designed to help your body transition out of "go mode" without leaving you feeling groggy the next morning. Plus the flavors pair with so many yummy options so so well.
It’s about the wind down without creating an addictive habit.
It is magic in a pouch and if you haven’t tried it yet I hope you do after reading this!

The Bottom Line
Healthy habits don't have to feel complicated.
Sometimes they're as simple as replacing one routine with another that leaves you feeling better tomorrow than you did today.
Mocktails aren't about pretending to drink alcohol.
They're about creating a ritual that helps you slow down, be present, and end your day with intention.
Whether you're embracing a sober curious lifestyle, taking a night off from alcohol, or simply looking for a refreshing evening beverage, a thoughtfully crafted mocktail can be one small habit that supports your overall well-being.
And if that habit also helps you cut back on alcohol, sleep better, and support your long-term health? Even better.
Because sometimes the best part of the drink is how it makes you feel.
